Matching Grant Project
Regional Blood Donation Center - Kaluga, Russia
|
|
The Blood Donation &
Transfusion Center in Kaluga Russia is in desperate need of modernized
equipment for the collection, processing, and storage of blood and blood
products. Specifically, the center needs new centrifuges, blood storage
freezers, and supplies for daily operation. If you can help in this area -
or know someone in the medical field who could - please contact us. The
assistance we provide to this center is a positive testimony to the
community of our overall ministry in the Kaluga area. |

Ken Wilcox, Orphan Cry
Executive Director, (and Rotarian) has been working with the Bainbridge
Rotary Club and the Moscow Capital Rotary Club to secure funding for
projects to benefit this center. Ken has helped to secure two new plasma
storage freezers so far. The Center in Kaluga Russia is still in desperate
need of additional equipment as listed above. Please consider a donation to
either Orphan Cry or the Bainbridge
Rotary Club for these important project medical needs. |

Project Info:
Purpose: The purpose of the project is to obtain a
modern high-capacity blood storage freezer for the Kaluga Regional Blood
Donation Center. The estimated cost of the project is $26,000 USD.
The freezer would be purchased in Russia to avoid shipping costs and customs
fees. Rotary International will match contributions to the Bainbridge
Rotary Club for this project in accordance with the terms & conditions of the
Matching Grant Program.
Project History: Bainbridge Rotarian Ken Wilcox travels
to Kaluga Russia several times annually to perform volunteer work in area
orphanages, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. During a previous
visit, Ken met the director of the blood center, Igor, who appealed to him
for help. Ken then discussed the project concept with Bainbridge Rotary
Club Past President Casey Bauerle and Current President Robin Haddad - who both
expressed support for the idea. Ken then made contact with Moscow Capital Rotary Club
President Alexander Kotov and met with his club in Moscow on two separate
occasions so far. In the spirit of Rotary international service,
Alexander, Ken and members of both Rotary clubs have been working diligently to
make this project a reality for the blood center in this needy region of the
Russian Federation.
